Life is complicated. OK, OK, I know…duh. But stay with me here.

You start out life with goals and high expectations. You have dreams that are perfectly played out in your head, just like a fairy tale.

Then real life hits and you realize that you are nowhere near the “happily ever after” of your dreams.

What can you do? How can you survive when your Prince Charming is more like the Hulk? Or the horse drawn coach has returned to a smashed pumpkin and the brave steeds have scurried back into the walls of your dilapidated castle?

May I make a suggestion?

Maybe it is time to just get real.

I am not talking about becoming a pessimist, but even Pollyanna realized bad things happen to good people and eventually she was able to smile again.

I hear you…What in the world are you talking about?

I am talking about stop-putting-your-head-in-the-sand-while-your-fairytale-is-disintegrating-around-you mentality and embrace each day, each new adventure, with joy.

Can you do it? Can you try?

I think you can.

How?

By reevaluating your life.

Simple, right?

It can be.

For example, I asked myself a few questions. “Myself,” said I, “what is it about your life now that makes you sad or irritable? What relationships are hindered because of your attitudes? What hobbies have you left behind? What dreams have you given up on?”

(You get the picture?)

So, I figured out a few things and determined to make changes. I wanted a simplified life. I wanted to enjoy life to the fullest in my relationships and in spite of what may be going on in my world.

I have chosen to look at areas in my life without the rose-colored glasses and accept the stark reality facing me and be joyful. I am focusing on a few areas of my life that I can change and simplify. This is my journey, with God’s help.

What about you? Do you want to join me in rediscovering life and creating a Joyful Simple Life?
